What are cracked heels?
Cracked heels occur when the skin around the heel cracks. Cracked heels are a very common problem and affect women as well as men of all ages.
What is the cause?
We expose our feet to a variety of stresses in terms of standing, walking, exercising and we do not always wear comfortable shoes. If the skin on the feet is also dry and therefore less elastic, slight cracks occur as the skin cannot stretch to allow the heel to expand slightly when it is subjected to pressure and stress.
How were these problems treated previously?
A common treatment recommendation was to wash your feet thoroughly every day and/or use a foot bath regularly, file your feet and apply a moisturising cream to moisturise and soften the skin.
